Scab pudding experiment
This is one pudding that will ALWAYS develop a skin! Check out Dr Chris and Dr Xand's recipe for an epic scab pudding experiment. Gross!
- Gelatine powder
- 200ml water
- Saucepan
- Red food colouring
- Greaseproof paper
- Measuring jug
- Wooden spoon
- Large mixing bowl
- Pink blancmange or strawberry yoghurt or mousse
- 1 pint of milk
- 40g sugar
- 30g red jelly
- Teaspoon
- 6 small glasses
- 1 pack custard
- Rice pop cereal
- Plate
Instructions
Step 1: Pour 200ml cold water into saucepan and bring to boil.
Get a grown-up to help and cover surfaces to prevent staining.
Step 2: Add 12g powdered gelatine and stir continuously so it doesn't stick to the pan until dissolved.Ìý
Step 3: Turn the heat off and leave to cool for 15 mins.
Step 4: Meanwhile, make up the jelly using the packet instructions.
Step 5: Pour the jelly into the bottom of each of the glasses and put in fridge to set.
Step 6: Add red food dye to the melted gelatine once 15 mins is up and stir to combine.
Step 7: Take your plate, cover it with greaseproof paper and pour the red gelatine mix into the middle. Don't let it drip off the plate!
Step 8: Set aside for 3-4 hours.
Step 9: Once the jelly is set, get the glasses from the fridge and sprinkle on rice pop cereal.Ìý
Step 10: Pour custard over the rice pop cereal.
Step 11: Mix a little cold milk with the blancmange mix to make a smooth paste.
Step 12: Heat the rest of the milk in a saucepan. Get a grown-up to do this, hot milk can be dangerous.
Step 13: Add the paste and sugar to the hot milk and stir.
Step 14: Once thick, leave to cool a little, then pour over the custard and put the glasses in fridge to set.
If you are using strawberry yoghurt or mousse, skip steps 11-14 and just pour it over the custard - there's no need to set the glasses in the fridge.
Step 15: The red gelatine should be solid, so cover your custard with circles or slices of gelatine to form edible scabs!
Dig in, yummy!
