About ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Education
We encourage independent production companies and education businesses to pitch for our briefs. We hold a commissioning day in April/May each year where we outline the majority of our commissioning plans for the financial year. Briefs are then added to this page throughout the year and an email alert is sent to our mailing list. Pitches should be submitted via email to the contact on the brief, please note that we don’t use the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ PiCoS pitching system. Invitations to pitch will be sent out no later than three weeks after the closing date for proposals. The commission will be awarded within six weeks of that date. Feedback will be provided to all participants.

Bitesize commissioning
For over 25 years, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Bitesize has been providing educationally approved, curriculum-relevant self-study and home learning materials to 4-16 year-olds.
Bitesize is knowledgeable, approachable - and never patronising. Our content helps users to feel supported and confident while giving them the information they need to succeed. No matter what level the user is at, we want them to know we are there for them.
In summer 2024 82% of GCSE students said ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Bitesize made them feel more prepared for their exams and 71% said that Bitesize helped them to achieve better grades in their GCSEs/Nationals.
Bitesize curriculum content includes:
- Video-rich self-study modules covering all the main GCSE and Scottish National and Higher subjects. These revision resources include videos, exam-style questions, podcasts and quizzes based on past papers.
- High-quality interactive guides across a range of subjects for younger secondary students. These guides include video, quizzes, infographics and award-winning games.
- On Bitesize Primary we’ve got thousands of learner guides with videos, activities and quizzes to help children learn step-by step.
- Popular educational games covering Maths, Science, English, Computing, History, Geography and more, at primary and secondary levels.
All Bitesize content is kept up to date with the UK curricula to ensure accuracy and trustworthiness.
Each year we commission short-form video and animation, games, interactive content, graphics and text, for a range of subjects.
Bitesize also features content for inspiration beyond young people's academic studies, helping them to navigate the challenges they will face throughout their school lives and as they transition into adulthood, plus resources to help parents:
- Bitesize Study Support includes video-led articles offering guidance for young people on topics such as revision techniques and exams, choosing options and bullying.
- Bitesize Careers supports young people whether they are deciding what to study, planning their future career or just curious about the world of work. There are hundreds of job profile videos, tips and advice about careers choices and next steps after school, and content for National Apprenticeship Week and National Careers Week including videos, podcasts and quizzes.
- The Parents' Toolkit includes stories, expert advice and fun activities to help the parenting community support children in a changing world.
Guidelines
Typically a commissioning brief will ask for a particular content format across a single subject; for example, animation for Key Stage 1 History or video case studies for job profiles.
Bitesize briefs are usually for a specific set of deliverables against agreed learning objectives for publication online. These will be a mixture of emailed briefs and those published on this website.
All content should adhere to Bitesize style guides. Relevant guides will be provided alongside deliverables as part of the commissioning process.

Bitesize for Teachers commissioning
ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Bitesize for Teachers (previously ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Teach) is now part of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Bitesize website to make it easier for teachers and educators to find everything they need in one place. Bitesize for Teachers is a dedicated teaching resource site which aims to support teachers by curating the best ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ content for teachers to use in the classroom and is packed with short curriculum-linked classroom videos bringing subjects to life for pupils of all ages, and Live Lessons marking key moments in the educational calendar.
The website is also home to curated resources collections for key moments in the educational calendar; assembly frameworks with classroom video and audio content; classroom projects including ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ micro:bit, Moodboosters and Ten Pieces, and a Teacher Support section.
In addition to advertised commissioning opportunities, we are always interested to hear new ideas that can help with our commitment to provide quality teaching resources. These speculative ideas need to be on an A4 page and cover the subject area, target age group/key stage and a brief explanation of the curricula need and should be emailed to Alex Harris and Cerys Griffiths.

Campaigns commissioning
ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Education runs a wide variety of campaigns which all aim to address societal deficits and inspire behaviour change in our audiences.
In July 2020 we launched the biggest of these, Tiny Happy People, an initiative which supports parents and carers in developing the language and communication skills of their 0-4 year-old children. Its aim is to close the language gap and ensure that all children start school with the communication skills necessary to thrive. We have worked with a coalition of partners on Tiny Happy People including The Royal Foundation and the website includes a range of simple, engaging activities and play ideas to improve the development of speech in babies and young children. . Tiny Happy People is now part of the CBeebies family.
Our other campaigns include:
Super Movers for Every Body ran in 2024/25 with the aim of encouraging and supporting young disabled people and sporting allies to enjoy being active. Working with the Premier League and Paralympics GB, we offered a comprehensive package of free teaching and learning resources to primary schools for the inclusive Paralympic sports of blind football, boccia and para athletics.
500 Words is the UK’s largest children’s story writing competition for 5-11 year-olds. Children of all abilities are encouraged to use their creativity and imagination to write a story they would love to read without having to worry about spelling, punctuation and grammar. ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Education ran 500 Words in 2023/24, 2024/25 and the competition will be returning again in 2025/26.
ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ micro:bit – the next gen: in 2023 we partnered with the Micro:bit Educational Foundation and Nominet to offer a free classroom set of 30 micro:bits to primary schools across the UK. The aim of the campaign was to empower primary school children with the digital skills to understand the world around them. In spring 2024 the campaign launched the playground survey to encourage schools to use their micro:bits to understand the value of data, and in autumn 2024 we ran a competition for school children to use their micro:bit to design a machine or gadget that could improve one of the Gladiators’ performance.
Other Side of the Story is a partnership between ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ News and ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Education. The campaign aims to show students how the news they see and share can affect their life and their view of the world. There are lots of videos, quizzes and activities to help 12-16 year-olds understand the news and opinions they see online.
Our diversity and inclusion commissioning guidelines
The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Education diversity and inclusion commissioning guidelines set out how we will work with suppliers to meet our ambitions for diversity and inclusion. Please consult these guidelines when responding to any of our commissioning briefs.
Our diversity fund
We are committed to growing diversity within the broadcast industry and creating more opportunities for individuals from underrepresented groups behind the camera. To support this we have a diversity fund across ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Children's and Education worth £200,000 per annum for projects that actively develop diverse off-screen talent through targeted initiatives which cannot be covered by the normal production budget.
