Complaint

These bulletins contained the results of a ѿý investigation into the CV of the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves.  A viewer complained that it was inaccurate and biased to focus on her LinkedIn profile as it is a social media platform and “does not necessarily reflect an accurate or official employment record”.  The ECU considered whether the reports met the standards of accuracy and impartiality set out in the Editorial Guidelines.

Outcome

The ECU noted it was made clear to viewers that this was an online CV which had appeared on Ms Reeves’ LinkedIn profile.  Websites are routinely used as a public record of someone’s career and as such it was not inappropriate to interrogate the information contained on Ms Reeves’ profile.  The reports included a defence of Ms Reeves from the Prime Minister and a comment from her spokeswoman – which ensured that, as well as being duly accurate, the items were duly impartial.
