Complaint
This edition included an interview with the then Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron which a complainant argued contained one-sided and inaccurate questions about UK support for Israel.  The ECU considered whether the broadcast met the relevant standards set out in the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Editorial Guidelines.
Outcome
In interviews of this kind the role of the presenter is to reflect other points of view and challenge the guest where appropriate.  Due impartiality was achieved by allowing Lord Cameron the time to respond to questions, set out his position and justify the actions the Government had taken.  In the ECU’s view there was a clear editorial justification for asking the Foreign Secretary to explain the Government’s position in light of events in the Middle East, including its support of Israel and its decision to continue to supply arms and provide military assistance, as well as its view on Israel’s military strike against an Iranian diplomatic building in Damascus.
