A little history…

In the Gallo-roman era, Saint-Galmier was undoubtedly a renowned place because the 1844 excavations uncovered numerous relics of roman thermal baths, dating from the middle of the 11th century to the middle of the 14th century after Jesus Christ.

During the Revolution, Saint-Galmier was called FRONTFOURVILLE
(from frontfort = strong fountain in English = sparkling water).

Why is it called SAINT-GALMIER ?
In the 7th century, a blacksmith was acknowledged by the abbey of Saint Just de Lyon.
He died after having been ordained sub-deacon by bishop Ganderie. In the 15th century he was named protector and parish model of his home country.

His name, BALDOMER evolved into GALMIER.
SANCTUS BALDOMERUS thereby became SAINT-GALMIER.
Its inhabitants are known as “Baldomériens” by the French…
