Ilan Volkov conducts the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ SSO in five World Premieres. Joanna Bailie’s playful new work will create ‘cover versions’ of pieces by Debussy and Johann Strauss while Paul Newland’s ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Commission pays tribute to the Scottish outsider artist. Christopher Trapani’s Rust and Stardust is about the transformations of memory, while John Croft’s new piece evokes a song sung by night to keep oneself from sleeping. Charles Curtis closes the concert with a new cello concerto by Cassandra Miller, whose work has been described as “rich to the ear, heart, and senses.â€
