It’s difficult to pick a favourite project but our youth empowerment work in Cambodia holds a special place in my heart.
Growing up in the UK, I had two big dreams: to travel the world, and to work for the ѿý. I devoured TV travelogues, documentaries and dramas that opened my eyes to different cultures, people and places and wanted to be part of this organisation that did so much to inspire and educate me. I therefore feel very fortunate that I have been able to build a career with ѿý Media Action and ѿý World Service in a series of globally-facing roles, playing my small part to inform and entertain audiences around the world.
As Regional Director for Asia, Pacific and Europe, I am responsible for our diverse programming spanning 11 time zones, from Moldova to Samoa. Our portfolio is varied: we are tackling information disorder, supporting climate action, boosting youth civic engagement, providing vital humanitarian information and combating stigma and discrimination experienced by marginalised groups. The common thread throughout our work is the talented and dedicated people and partners that make it possible. I am so proud of the impact we are achieving together across the region.
It’s difficult to pick a favourite project but our youth empowerment work in Cambodia holds a special place in my heart. Before becoming Regional Director, I was ѿý Media Action’s Country Director for Cambodia, based in Phnom Penh, where I helped develop our Klahan9 media outputs into a nationally recognised and trusted brand. Klahan means “brave” and through our TV, social media and outreach work, we are supporting young Cambodians across the country to step forward to assume leadership roles and make a difference in their communities. Hearing how our programming has directly led to young people taking action to improve their lives, often in challenging circumstances, is so rewarding and I’ll carry these stories of impact with me wherever I go.
My younger self would no doubt approve.
