Michael Carrington appointed Creative Director of CBeebies

Michael Carrington, currently Head of Animations and Programme Acquisitions for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Children's, has been appointed as Creative Director of CBeebies, it was announced today by Richard Deverell, Controller of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Children's.

In this role, Carrington will be editorially responsible for the top performing CBeebies digital children's channel, for all CBeebies output on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ ONE and ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ TWO, and for bbc.co.uk/cbeebies. He will take forward the CBeebies brand, ensuring its creative renewal.

In his current role Carrington has made some of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Children's most successful acquisitions including the number one hit Charlie And Lola.

He has introduced a strategy to commission more UK animation, which has resulted in Shaun The Sheep, Animalia, Tronji and The Secret Show.

Ìý

Carrington has 20 years' experience in children's television, starting out in production for Network Ten in Australia, before joining the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ in 1990.

His career includes roles as Acquisitions Executive for the Discovery Channel (Europe), Deputy Head of Programme Acquisitions for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Children's and Head of Television and New Media for Create TV and Film Limited (formerly LEGO Media).

Alan Yentob, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Director of Drama, Entertainment and Children's, said: "CBeebies has been the top performing children's channel since launch. Michael is the perfect person to build the brand from its position of strength."

Richard Deverell said: "Michael has unparalleled understanding of the UK and international children's markets, as well as a huge intuitive understanding of the programmes which children will enjoy.

This appointment is another step in Deverell's strategy of editorially strengthening his senior management team and focussing on the two major children's brands.

In February, Anne Gilchrist was appointed Creative Director, CÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ and Reem Nouss was promoted from Editor of Magazine Programmes to Head of News, Factual & Learning.
