Tim Davie appointed as Director of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Audio & Music

Tim Davie has been appointed Director of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Audio & Music.

Tim, who is currently director of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Marketing, Communications and Audiences division and sits on the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ executive board, takes over from Jenny Abramsky, who is leaving the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ after 39 years.

In his new role, Tim will oversee ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radios 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Live and the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ digital radio stations 1Xtra, 6 Music, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ 7, 5 Live Sports Extra and the Asian Network.

He will also be responsible for the three ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ orchestras in England, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Singers, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Proms, Classical Music & Performance Television and Radio Resources.

In addition, he will take charge of Radio Drama and Television Music Entertainment and will be strategically responsible for all audio across the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½.

Director-General Mark Thompson welcomed the appointment.

Tim Davie said: "It is a great privilege to build on the outstanding legacy of Jenny Abramsky and take on the leadership of a very talented team.

"This is a special role because of the unique cultural contribution of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s audio and music output, which is highly valued by millions of people.

"As a passionate advocate of radio, I am excited by the challenge of continuing to deliver not only distinctive ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ services but also to support the growth of the medium as a whole across traditional and digital platforms."

Jenny Abramsky leaves the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ at the end of September, when she will begin chairing the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Tim Davie became Director of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Marketing, Communications and Audiences division in April 2005, having previously been Vice President, Marketing and Franchise, of PepsiCo Europe.

He read English at Cambridge University and is married with three sons.
