Langoustine

Also known as Dublin Bay Prawns or Norway Lobster, Langoustine are one of Scotland’s most profitable exports and one of the few sources of income for West Coast communities. Langoustine are caught by two different methods of fishing – Creeling and trawling. Creels caught prawns are kept alive and sold to the premium restaurant markets at home and abroad. Trawled prawns are caught in bulk and mainly sold for the frozen prawn tail or scampi market.

Bally operates the Creel boat “Nemesis” out of Kyleakin on the South eastern tip of Skye with his crewman, Dochus.

Robert is the skipper of the prawn trawler “Rebecca Jeneen”. This one million pound vessel is the newest boat in the Mallaig fishing fleet.

Bill Simmonds

Bill is the skipper of the scallop Dredger “Vikingborg”. He fishes out of Mallaig in the same areas as prawn trawlers and creel boats.
