Athletes from across the world will line up to take on this spectacular course, running past the iconic buildings of the city and out across the Cardiff Bay barrage. The elite field has a particularly strong showing from Kenya and Ethiopia. In the men’s race, Wilson Chebet heads a competitive field which also includes 2017 champion John Lotiang and 2016 champion Shadrack Kimining. The women’s race sees Paskalia Kipkoech, Lucy Cheruiyot and Lydia Mathathi go toe to toe in a bid to be crowned 2019 Champion.
But it’s not just superstars of distance running taking on the 13.1 miles. Over 27,000 runners will line up in front of Cardiff Castle ahead of tackling this fast and flat course which takes in the sights of many historic buildings and landmarks. Some are running to break personal bests; others are running for charities close to their hearts, a selection of which we will hear about in the programme.
The world famous half marathon isn’t the only race on offer during the weekend. Saturday’s Festival of Running kicks off the weekend with an event for all abilities, ranging from the Family Fun Run to the Toddler Dash.
Commentary from John Rawling and Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, with Lowri Morgan and Jamie Baulch on reporter duty.
