An Edinburgh Christmas Carol, Booker Prize winning author Shehan Karunatilaka, film review of Armageddon Time
Live song from the choir of An Edinburgh Christmas Carol, Booker Prize winning author Shehan Karunatilaka, and film review of Armageddon Time.
An Edinburgh Christmas Carol returns to the Lyceum Theatre stage next week with all the colour, cheer and spookiness that makes Dickens' classic tale so special - with a uniquely Edinburgh twist, including a community choir made up of local Edinburgh residents. They pop into the studio to put Michelle in the festive spirit.
This year’s Booker Prize winning author Shehan Karunatilaka joins live from Sri Lanka to discuss his book ‘The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida’ which is set in Sri Lanka during the civil war and insurgency of the 1980s and 90s. Despite being set during a dark time in Sri Lanka’s history, Shehan’s novel has humour, and has been described as “part ghost story and part whodunit” and the Booker judges said it was a roller-coaster journey through life and death.
In film, Siobhan Synott chats with Normal People actor Paul Mescal and Edinburgh born director Charlotte Wells’ about their new Aftersun ahead of its general release after premiering at the Edinburgh International Film Festival earlier this year. And Michelle is joined by Joe Goldblatt and Anna Smith to review Armageddon Time, a coming-of-age story about the strength of family and the generational pursuit of the American dream based on Director James Gray’s childhood experiences as young Jewish-American boy who befriends a rebellious African-American classmate.
