Sheku Kanneh-Mason plays Weinberg's Cello Concerto
Andrew Manze conducts the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic in Coleridge-Taylor's Ballade and Elgar's 1st Symphony, and Sheku Kanneh-Mason plays Mieczysław Weinberg's Cello Concerto.
Superstar cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason joins the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra to perform a haunting, unfairly neglected concerto by one of Shostakovich’s best friends - Mieczysław Weinberg. You'll also hear one of the greatest of British symphonies - Elgar’s First, which, when it was premiered in Manchester in 1908, the audience jumped to its feet and cheered.
Recorded at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on 4th April
Presented by Penny Gore.
