Manchester Birthplace of the Computer - Computer Special
As Manchester is the birthplace of the computer, Stuart presents a show of music about (and occasionally by) computers.
As the 6 Music Festival returns to Greater Manchester and Manchester is the birthplace of the computer, Stuart presents a show of music about (and occasionally by) computers.
In 1948 the University of Manchester built the Manchester Baby, also known as the Small-Scale Experimental Machine (SSEM). You couldn't play games on it or use it to answer your e-mails but it was the world's first first electronic stored-program computer and the perfect excuse to bring you tunes by the likes of France Gall. Anna Meredith and Rush.
And, because sometimes it doesn't hurt to be obvious, the featured album is of course the classic Computer Word by Kraftwerk.
