Deigh/Ice
As the ice drastically melts, we see how science, nature and tradition can prepare us for the future.
Tha deigh aig pòlaichean a’ phlanaid agus mullaichean nam beanntan ag atharrachadh gu mòr. Thèid tòrr dheth à sealladh san linn seo. Tha na cruthan-tìre deighe seo a’ dol tro chruth atharrachadh, ach tha buaidh aig an leaghadh a’ dol nas fhaide buileach – chan eil à ite sam bith sà bhailte bho na dh’ fhaodadh tachairt.
Fhad ’s a tha uisge reòthte a’ leaghadh bho na h-eigh-shruthan, siotaichean deighe pòlarach agus deigh na mara, tha e ag atharrachadh patarain aimsire agus sruthan mara, agus chan eil an saoghal mar a tha sinne eòlach air cho aithnichte dhuinn.
A’ falbh air turas iongantach bho phòlaichean reòthte an Antartaig agus an Artaig gu à rd-chlà ran mòr agus sgurran na Himalayas, tha sgioba sònraichte de eòlaichean a’ tabhainn adhbhar dòchais airson à m ri teachd as aonais deighe. Tha sinn a’ sreap am broinn eigh-shruthan, a’ tighinn faisg air ròin, mucan-mara dhronnach agus mathain bà na gus tuigse fhaighinn air mar a tha beatha agus nà dar ag atharrachadh agus a’ glacadh modhan bheathaichean, nach deach fhaicinn a-riamh, air film.
Tha am prògram seo a’ taisbeanadh mar a tha nà dar a’ lorg dòigh, agus mar a tha saidheans agus traidisean gar ullachadh fhèin agus ar Cruinne Caochlaideach airson à m ri teachd a tha ag atharrachadh aig astar.
Ice at the planet’s poles and mountain peaks is changing drastically. Much will disappear completely this century. These icescapes are transforming, but the impact of the melt goes much further - nowhere on the planet is immune from the sometimes-unexpected consequences. As frozen water melts from glaciers, polar ice caps and sea ice, it changes weather patterns and ocean currents, and the world as we know it.
Journeying from the frozen poles of Antarctica and the Arctic to the vast plateaus and soaring peaks of the Himalayas, an extraordinary team of experts offer hope for a future with less ice.
We climb into glaciers and capture never seen before animal behaviour on film - getting up close with seals, humpback whales and polar bears to understand how life is changing and nature is adapting. This programme reveals how nature finds a way, and how science, and tradition can help prepare us and our Dynamic Planet for a fast-changing future.
