Sink into soothing cycles ft. Portico Quartet

Hania Rani shares contemplative music full of loops, patterns and cycles. Also, Duncan Bellamy and Jack Wyllie from Portico Quartet each share their own musical safe havens.

Polish composer, pianist and vocalist Hania Rani believes that time is the kernel of music - where the music happens, how it happens and of course when. In this episode, she shares contemplative musical selections that demonstrate how artists grapple with time. She reflects on different ways to tame or temporarily control time in music - through loops, patterns, cycles and gaps, with pieces by Steve Reich, Shida Shahabi and Mette Henriette.

And we’re transported to not one but two musical safe havens—hearing from Duncan Bellamy and Jack Wyllie from the Mercury Prize-nominated group Portico Quartet, who each share the song that brings them ultimate calm.
