Whistling with the Marsalis Family
A selection of the best in jazz music.
In a tribute to jazz educator Ellis Marsalis, the family pay tribute to their outstanding father. They also include a few other musicians in the tribute, but Jason Marsalis does the whistling while Wynton plays trumpet on a Charlie Parker original. There’s also some very smooth tenor from Eddie ‘Lockjaw’ Davis and Nancy Wilson sings ‘unrehearsed’ in the 1980’s. Dinah Washington sings the blues at breakneck speed and Cab Calloway contributes to the boogie-woogie scene of the late 40’s. There’s unreleased sides from blue singer Ottilie Patterson and a giggling Ella sings what started out to be a sad song.
