A working day in the 19th century
The work and wage experiences of a woman called Hannah Mitchell, a worker in the 19th century. Initially she is a domestic servant who finds a position as a dress-maker's assistant. She reveals how she can work from 12-14 hours a day and details the working experiences of others who work without a day off or an early finish for a whole week. She discusses the factory acts and how their protection for workers was in the wording and rarely in the action.
