Alexandre Desplat is one of the most prolific film composers working today, and almost every year his work is nominated for an Oscar, a Bafta or a C茅sar.

His films include The King鈥檚 Speech, Girl with a Pearl Earring, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Fantastic Mr Fox and Rise of the Guardians.

He talks to Harriett Gilbert about the role of music in filmmaking and why he loves collaborating with great directors.
