Painter and decorator John Pierce stepped in to save the day after a church鈥檚 concert artist fell ill last minute. In the morning he was busy decorating Maldon鈥檚 United Reformed Church in Essex, but by the afternoon he had taken centre stage, delighting church goers with an operatic master class. He didn鈥檛 even have chance to change out of his painting overalls.

John told 5 live that once he started singing 鈥渆veryone鈥檚 faces dropped鈥�.

鈥淭hey didn鈥檛 know anything about me, so I think that was the lovely thing鈥�.
