The bamboo bike that’s crossed a continent

A British women has cycled more than 8,000 miles across South America on a bike made out of bamboo to raise awareness of biodiversity loss.

Kate Rawles set off from Northern Columbia on her bike ‘Woody’ and followed the spine of the Andes mountains, crossing Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina.

She says the bamboo bike has “a lower carbon footprint, is biodegradable and also very sustainable”.

On her journey, Kate visited a range of biodiversity and nature conservation-related projects.

“I learned so much. It was very inspiring and gives a lot of hope that if we throw our backs into this issue we can crack it”.
