Conservative PMs and their battles with Europe
Theresa May’s vote of confidence, which she won by a margin of 200 to 117, is the latest scrap in a long-running internal Conservative Party conflict over the UK's relationship with the European Union. Whilst Labour also has divisions on the issue, a long line of Conservative prime ministers, from Edward Heath to Margaret Thatcher, John Major to David Cameron, have been tormented by Europe.
