Sudan's military and civilians have finally reached an agreement. The news comes after months of protests, a military takeover ousting president Omar al-Bashir and then a brutal crackdown killing over 100 peaceful demonstrators. The deal is intended to set up a civilian-led transition to democracy. The military council, civilian protest leaders and international mediators held a joint press conference in the early hours of Friday morning. The key sticking point had been the composition of a sovereign council. Newsday's James Copnall spoke to Siddig Yousif. He was one of the main negotiators on behalf of the civilians.
