Kelly Cates looks back on the stories making the headlines on Day six of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. GB’s Mallory Franklin faced a nervous wait to see if Australian Jessica Fox could knock her out of gold medal position in the canoe slalom.
There was heartbreak for Team GB rowers Helen Glover and Polly Swann as they agonisingly finished 4th in the women’s doubles whilst Emily Craig and Imogen Grant suffered the same fate: they fell shy of the medals by just 0.01 seconds in the women's lightweight double sculls. But there was gold medal success for Irish duo Fintan McCarthy and Paul O’Donovan - their country’s first ever gold medal in Olympic rowing.
Elsewhere, GB secured a bronze in the shooting as world champion Matthew Coward-Holley finished third in his final to secure bronze.
