The wonderful world of Walter
Exploring the life and times of Peterborough’s own daredevil, Walter Cornelius.
A lifeguard who worked at Peterborough Lido has become part of the city’s history.
Walter Cornelius was known as the world’s strongest man and had over 50 world records.
When he wasn’t performing at children’s parties, Walter was pushing a double decker bus with his head for half a mile and skipping for 90 minutes with a 48 pound metal chain.
Walter died in 1983, but his life is still celebrated in the city he made his home after escaping Soviet-controlled Latvia.
Milly Harrold tells the story of Walter’s wonderful world.
