A missile has hit the city of Sumy in Ukraine, killing 35 people and injuring 117 others.

Yulia Lisitsa, a woman living in Sumy, recalls what happened when the attack occurred on Monday, as she walked outside in the streets.

"People were screaming for help, pulling the bodies from the rubble...are my loved ones alive or not?"

She said she cried along with many other people who were witnessing the tragic events, and said "I immediately called my mother, she lives in another city, I told her that I was alive, I tried to calm her..."

She told Newsday that some of her friends were planning to flee Sumy and leave the country as the war continues. However many others like herself and her mother, are adamant that they want to stay in their hometown city of Sumy, and have no intensions to leave Ukraine.

"We are scarred, but we are also united...."
