Dvořák’s ‘New World’ Symphony

A musical postcard from America. Dvořák’s ‘New World’ Symphony is charged with nostalgia, its lyrical warmth offering a striking contrast to the zesty contemporary drama of Adolphus Hailstork’s An American Port of Call – a musical portrait of a busy port city – and the transcendent peace of Jennifer Higdon’s Blue Cathedral – ‘a symbolic doorway into and out of this world’. Venezuelan trumpet virtuoso Pacho Flores is the soloist in Arturo Márquez’s vibrant and tune-filled Concierto de otoño.
