About our work

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Media Action has been working in Nepal since 2006. Our work in Nepal is focused on innovative media and communication initiatives that are strengthening democracy, supporting media ecosystems and tackling information disorder - while supporting communities to prepare for, and adapt to, extreme climate risks.

Traditional ways of life are at risk due to extreme climate and in Nepal, increasingly severe monsoons are triggering deadly landslides. Building on our legacy public debate TV programme Sajha Sawal (‘Common Questions’ – 2007-2019), we have shifted our programming to climate change adaptation and disaster risk resilience through initiatives like Sajag-Nepal which supports with preparing people for mountain hazards and risk, and in 2024, we launched Bridges, a new three-year project supporting people on the frontlines of climate change in Nepal, Bangladesh and Kenya to adapt and prepare for shocks.

The climate content we produce highlights the adverse impact of natural hazards, how people have adapted and the efforts they are making to rebuild their lives.

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Media Action's lifesaving broadcast Milijuli Nepali (‘Together Nepal’) helped people with critical knowledge for survival during, and after the devastating earthquake in 2015 - later adapting to support during the global COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. It provided listeners with trusted, timely, accurate and useful information, shared stories of community spirit to help people stay connected and helped people to build back better with information about recovery and reconstruction.

Another innovative mobile health tool, Mobile Chautari supported the female community health volunteers to provide effective primary care in rural and remote parts of Nepal, while our Blossom Project fostered a safer and more supportive learning environment for children in 2021.

We are strengthening community-led media and mentoring media professionals by sharing knowledge, and supporting networks and joint programme ventures. Through partners like ACORAB, and local radio partners, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Media Action continues to amplify people's voices towards a more inclusive and safer Nepal.
