Coburn's overuse of Lemon for Men gets up everyone's nose, and some miscommunication between Coburn, Louise and Probation Officer Haley leads to romantic embarrassment. Reporter Louise is desperate to print her scandalous story about the judge, but her editor warns her to check her facts thoroughly.

Coburn finds a loophole to send one of Jake's henchmen down, eliciting a declaration of war from Jake. Darren, a young Dovefield lad who had seemed to be doing well on probation, fails to turn up for a probation meeting. Coburn's not prepared to lose another lad to Jake's empire, and goes into Jake's territory to find him. Jake ramps up the pressure on Kaz, and Sharna has to rescue her from a potentially dangerous situation.

Louise confronts Coburn, but is surprised when he tells her to go ahead and print. "You do your job and I'll carry on doing mine" he tells her. Coburn starts to face up to his past, against the advice of Joe.

An unusual solution to Darren's case involves the help of old lag and ex-boxer Leonard Hancock - an attempt to keep them both out of prison, which provokes even more press attention.

The pressure is getting to be unbearable, but Coburn nails his colours to the mast; he makes provocative statements to Judiciary and the press: "I'm here to stay, and so are the people of this community. If you want me, come and get me, but I'm not leaving without a fight." Joe is furious that Coburn has gone against his advice yet again; this time he's had enough.
