Tom chats to conductor Gianandrea Noseda
Tom Service with guests, stories and the perfect classical soundtrack to start the weekend, including conductor Gianandrea Noseda
Tom Service with guests, stories and the perfect classical soundtrack to start your weekend!
Conductor Gianandrea Noseda chats about his upcoming concerts in the UK, where he is performing symphonies by Shostakovich and Prokofiev - he tells Tom why the music and political undertones of both composers still resonates so strongly today. In a time of flux for American cultural institutions, Gianandrea also talks about his role as Music Director of the Washington based National Symphony Orchestra, what links a conductor and Ferrari and why there is always hope in music.
Tom also visits a brand new exhibition at the Korean Culture Centre in the UK which explores the science behind the sound of Korean music and instruments - how did music underpin the whole of Korean society in the 15th century?
Plus he chats to composer Brian Irvine about his Totally Made Up Orchestra at New Music Dublin where music lovers of any age, any instrument and any ability are encouraged to join this ‘beautiful, monster, music machine phenomenon’!
Plus the continuation of ѿý Radio 3’s 25 for 25: Sounds of the Century – a series of brand new commissions celebrating and commemorating some of the biggest events of the 21st century so far. This week, film composer Natalie Holt, who has scored Loki, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Rivals, reflects on the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull, the Icelandic volcano which grounded international air travel in April 2010.
