The Chaos Quartet perform Schubert, Ligeti and Britten, live from Wigmore Hall, and Mark Forrest begins a week featuring specially made recordings of music by Bach and his contemporaries.

Radio 3 New Generation Artists the Chaos Quartet present music by two great figures of the 20th century alongside a youthful quartet by Schubert. Schubert's E flat Quartet is sometimes referred to as his 'Household' quartet as it was originally written to be performed by the members of his family. It clearly owes a debt to the music of Haydn and Mozart and is characteristically rich in melody.

Also in today's programme, Mark Forrest works his way towards Friday's broadcast of JS Bach's St Matthew Passion, with works by Bach and some of his famous contemporaries, including the start of a cycle of Brandenburg Concertos with Renaud Capuçon and the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra.
