Soccer Game, Pirate Map, Japanese Mask
Nigel Havers presides as five sellers aim to get the best price for their items, including a football game, wooden steps, a 19th-century map, French glassware and a Noh mask.
Nigel Havers welcomes five more sellers to the Bidding Room, where they try to sell items to professional dealers who are on the lookout for interesting pieces, with help from expert Simon Bower.
First through the doors is Nick, with a loft find he’s hoping will have the dealers on his side. Simon detects the 1950s tin football game was manufactured in the former Soviet Union. Nick wants to raise some money for an animal charity, so which of the dealers will be star player in the room?
Next in is Chrissie, with a set of library steps she bought at auction 12 years ago. It’s had many roles in her home - such as a badminton umpire's chair and a crow’s nest on an imaginary pirate ship, as well as a shop display piece. The time has come to move it on, but will any of the dealers find a different use for them and offer the right price to rehome the steps?
Third to chart a course to Edinburgh HQ is Andy, with an 18th-century map of Captain Cook’s final voyage. Produced by French cartographer Rigobert Bonne, the historic map was originally published in a book, but will any of the dealers now put themselves in the frame for it?
Fourth in and returning to the room are Paul and Rachel, with a collection of French glassware. Self-confessed breaker of anything precious, Paul wants them out of his hands and into the safe care of one of the five astute dealers - for the right price.
Finally, it’s young dealer-in-the-making Abigail and her mum Susan, with a car boot sale find that should put a smile on the dealers' faces. The Japanese Noh mask, used in theatres and based on Japanese gods, is now a decorative item, but can Abigail prove her talent for selling by driving the price up in the room?
The dealers today are Ian, Melissa, Sam, Jo and James.
