  1. Flood alert

Areas affected: Groundwater flooding in West Ilsley, East Ilsley, Compton, Chilton and West Hagbourne

    ACTIVE

Started at: 14:41 BST on Tue 8 April

Flooding is possible - be prepared

Groundwater levels are high, but are falling slowly, at our Hodcott borehole near West Ilsley, East Ilsley and Compton. Groundwater levels are above normal for this time of year and remain at a level at which communities may be affected by groundwater flooding. This week is forecast to be predominantly dry. We expect groundwater levels to remain high for the next few weeks and levels are sensitive to sustained rainfall. Low-lying land and properties will therefore continue to be at risk of flooding. We are continuing to monitor groundwater levels and will update this message next week, by 15/04/2025, or as the situation changes.

  4. Flood alert

Areas affected: Groundwater flooding in the Candovers and Old Alresford

    ACTIVE

Started at: 16:22 BST on Mon 7 April

Flooding is possible - be prepared

Groundwater levels in the Candovers and Old Alresford are high but continue to slowly fall. In the last week, the level at Preston Candover has fallen by 14cm. At Old Alresford, it has fallen by 17cm. A small number of properties are expected to be experiencing cellar flooding in Preston Candover and Old Alresford. Septic tanks will be struggling to operate effectively. Over the next 5 days, the weather is expected to be mostly dry. Groundwater levels will continue to slowly fall, and flooding impacts will decrease. Flood impacts are expected to continue through most of April. We continue to monitor the levels and forecast. If you have pumps to help reduce water levels, please ensure that they are operating. This Flood Alert will be updated by 18:00 on Monday 14/04/2025.

  5. Flood alert

Areas affected: River Lambourn and its tributaries from Upper Lambourn down to Newbury

    ACTIVE

Started at: 09:11 BST on Mon 7 April

Flooding is possible - be prepared

Property flooding is not currently expected. River levels remain high due to high groundwater levels in the area. However, following drier conditions, levels are falling very slowly on the Winterbourne Stream and the River Lambourn. Flooding of low lying land and roads remains possible, especially in the Bagnor area. This week is forecast to remain predominantly dry. River levels are expected to remain high over the coming days. Levels will be sensitive to further rainfall.

Go to the 'River and Sea levels in England' webpage for current river levels. Avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses. This message will be updated on Monday morning, 14/04/25, or as the situation changes.

  6. Flood alert

Areas affected: Groundwater flooding in the Salisbury Plain area

    ACTIVE

Started at: 14:56 BST on Wed 2 April

Flooding is possible - be prepared

Groundwater levels are slowly falling, but remain over the flood alert thresholds. Areas at risk include areas around the Till and the Wylye Valley. Flooding of roads and fields is possible. Light showers are expected Thursday evening (3rd of April) into Friday morning. We are not currently expecting very much drop in groundwater levels. Where groundwater is near the surface, intense rainfall will lead to surface water flooding. Residents are advised to prepare property resilience measures and ensure that pumps are working where they have been installed. We will continue to monitor the situation closely. This message will be updated by 05:00 PM on 09/04/2025, or as the situation changes.

  7. Flood alert

Areas affected: Groundwater flooding in Flamstead

    ACTIVE

Started at: 14:22 BST on Wed 2 April

Flooding is possible - be prepared

Groundwater levels have responded to high effective rainfall during the autumn and early winter, and have risen to very high levels at our observation borehole at River Hill, close to Flamstead. Groundwater levels are unusually high for this time of year and have now reached a level where communities are at risk of being affected by flooding from groundwater.

We expect levels to remain high over the coming months in response to the high autumn and early winter rainfall. Low lying land and roads such as those in the Trowley Bottom area near Flamstead will therefore be at risk of flooding. Due to the nature of groundwater behaviour, this situation could continue for several weeks or longer.

We are continuing to monitor groundwater levels and will update this message on Wednesday 16th April 2025, or as the situation changes.

  8. Flood alert

Areas affected: River Mimram in Hertfordshire

    ACTIVE

Started at: 14:22 BST on Wed 2 April

Flooding is possible - be prepared

Flooding is affecting low lying land, roads and gardens close to the River Mimram. This is due to persistent rainfall in December and January which has led to high groundwater levels.

We are monitoring the flooding that is currently affecting the Fulling Mill Lane, Singlers Marsh, and Codicote Road areas in Welwyn.

There is elevated risk of flooding caused by water emerging from a third party blocked culvert. Flooding to homes and businesses is unlikely at this time, but there may be a risk to very low-lying properties or those with basements. River levels in other areas remain below levels of concern.

Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water. We are continuing to monitor the situation.

This message will be updated by 5pm, Wednesday 16th April 2025, or as the situation changes.
