Slave religion, beliefs and traditions

Over time, many of these traditions combined with Christianity brought across by missionaries. The conversion of slaves to Christianity caused tensions, not least because slave owners resented slaves taking time off for services. There was also a culture clash between the very strict approach of white preachers and the more congregational approach of the slaves.
