Development of the transatlantic slave trade
The development of the triangular trade is described from its ancient origins, through the European involvement in the 16th and 17th centuries, to its massive expansion by the British in the 18th century. The economic forces driving slavery are set out, as are the methods by which slaves were captured and transported. The involvement of Africans in the slave trade is described, and the personal experience of abolitionist Olaudah Equiano is described.
