
Racial prejudice in the USA in the 20th century
Even though slavery was abolished in the USA in 1865, many black Americans still faced poverty and injustice throughout the 20th century. Society in the southern states was almost entirely segregated and the Ku Klux Klan was a powerful organisation. We are given a brief outline of the great migration of black Americans to the northern cities of the USA. Racism was still a factor in the northern states but segregation was not official policy as it was in the South.
